Check all the wires and connections involved first. then check out the solenoid for burned contacts, also check and clean battery terminals. BillBelk
Sounds like the starter solenoid try jumping the solenoid. Bill
12 Volts to the 6volt starter can be very hard on the flywheel teeth. Bill
