I am looking to change from a bias ply to a radial tire on my 49 DeSoto first series. I found a set of fat white walls from Diamond Back that I like. I am trying to determine what tire size to purchase to use on my stock rims. The DeSoto manual says 6.5 - 15 and I currently have 7.00 - 15 on the car now. 6.5 converts P175/75R15 and 7.00 - 15 converts to 225/75R15. I found a set of 225/75R15 fat white walls at Summit Racing but I have been told by another member that I will need wider rims. Summit Racing does not have a P175/75R15 tire in a fat white wall but they do have 205/75R15 in a fat white wall radial which is a little narrower tire. Any input as to what tire sizes other DeSoto owners have used would be greatly appreciated.
@CarlNutaitis do you know the answer to this? I know you recently did tire research for your '41.
I will let you know tomorrow the size of the radial tires that I purchased for my S-11 ('47 Deluxe).
But I should tell you in advance that they will not fit down into the "spare-tire well" in the trunk.
They are way too wide. You will either do without a spare, or allow it to lay flat on the trunk floor.
I just checked. The radial tires on my 1947 S-11 are: 215/75R15 (CORSA B\black walls).
Coker Tire should have 215/75R15 tires in wide white walls.
