Hi everyone, thanks for accepting my request. Having some issues with my pals 53 Firedome with 276 hemi. Got it running pretty good, but driving notsomuch. It really feels sluggish at low speed, almost like a manual car starting off in second gear. It will shift after getting up to proper speed but it tough getting it there. Things we have done so far-

Cleaned and rebuilt carburetor with mikes kit.

Accelerator pump, float, and metering rods adjusted according to service manual.

Idles great, revs great in neutral, bogs and sputters while driving, backfires through carb, power is low. Mixture screws do not effect running even at lower rpm.

Tested for vacuum leaks with smoke machine, found small leak at carb plate, repaired, not much change.

Timing is 5 btdc at 550 rpm, 15 btdc at 2k rpm. Plugs and wires replaced

Pertronix ignition, 12v conversion, exhaust heat valve for choke removed.

Mixture screws having no effect concerns me but I can’t seem to find any vacuum leak to cause it unless there’s another reason I’m missing. SOS!

Could it possibly be a coil going bad? A bad coil will sometimes cause a car to run poorly.
