I'd like to add sill and wheelhouse mouldings to my Fireflite. Any hint where to ask to sell? And to make things harder, i live in Finland. Is shipping expensive..

Hi,

That trim is hard to find, but here are a few suggestions:

  • Submit a "parts wanted" ad to the NDC magazine ad editor (Russ). Instructions to do so are in every magazine immediately preceding the ads and is free to you as a member. That will reach all 1,000+ NDC members.
  • Use the roster (which you should receive with your welcome letter to the club) to find anyone listed with a 1960 DeSoto parts car (condition 6). That trim will be on the Adventurer model, so you'll want to look for anyone that has that model specifically. You can reach out to see if they have those parts on their parts car and are willing to sell them. You could also reach out to other 1960 Adventurer owners in the club in case they have spare parts to sell.
  • Contact one of the vintage Mopar junkyards: Murray Park (www.cbodies.com + NDC member) in Ohio, Big M Automotive in California, or Desert Valley Auto Parts in Arizona.

Some of the Chryslers also used the same full wheel & rocker moldings. The only thing you might have to consider is that some of the Chryslers that are likely to have that trim, such as a New Yorker, are a longer wheelbase than the DeSoto. However, that extra 4 inches will be in the long rocker molding and you could have that trimmed down for your car. Just be sure to match the Chrysler pieces to the DeSoto version to ensure the style and shape visually matches otherwise.

Shipping will be VERY expensive if you find the parts in the US since there are some very long pieces involved. If the parts you find are located in the US, you may want to see if any of the European NDC members have connections with someone with a shipping container that is regularly loaded and sent over. You may still have shipping costs to get to the shipper and to you, as well as something for the container owner, but that may be cheaper than shipping direct. The junkyards listed above should be familiar with shipping overseas.

If I think of it when I am over there next, I'll take a couple of reference photos of my grandpa's '60 Adventurer (4-door sedan) so you know exactly what the trim should look like.

I hope this helps!
