and the body numbers?? I forgot them already
From the serial number (VIN) 62022527 provided it can be determined that the car is a 1950 DeSoto Custom assembled in LA. This was the 11,027th Custom built in LA out of a total of 11,725 Customs built there. The model 142 indicates the car is a Custom model. The body 5 indicates it is a four door sedan. Paint code 321 is for Andante Green metallic paint. The range of VIN numbers for 1950 DeSoto Customs built in LA is 62011501 to 62023225. Mac
Custom model??? what does that mean?
In general, the 1950 DeSotos were classified as either Custom models or Deluxe models. The Deluxe model was the base model and the Custom was the upscale model. From the outside, the stainless trim under the front door vent windows said Custom or Deluxe on the sedans. Chris' stainless is missing in his pictures. The Custom had stone shields on the rear fenders and full hubcaps; whereas, the Deluxe had no stone shields and had small hubcaps with beauty rings. Fluid drive was standard on the Custom and optional on the Deluxe. Straight drive was available on the Deluxe but not on the Custom. The arm rest on the right front door was optional on the Deluxe but standard on the Custom. These among other differences. Mac
Well I have interior door handles on both front doors. I have side armrests on the back seat, none in the center. the seats have a thick plastic layer as the top layer. it has that california bar, the sun visor, full hubcaps, I have two piece door panels, the top is metal, and the bottom is that wood/cotton/vinyl stuff. The metal part has that spaniard helmet inlay on all 4 panels. things of that nature. Not sure what all belongs and what doesnt.
