Hello Fellow Desoto restorers,

So I am beginning to seriously build up my tools for the restoration of this car and I in reading up on my manuals, have come across something of interest:

In the (burgundy-colored) Desoto Shop Manual for models S-13, S-14 and S15 - 1949 - 1952, on page 149 in the Electrical section of the manual, they talk about using a Turning and Undercutting tool C-770 for turing down the commutator. Does anyone know where one can locate such an "animal"?

Ralph

Most Sincerely,

Ralph M Bohm

Ralph, I have a differant service manual so page number was differant but I found the C-770 tool in the section on rebuilding the windshield wiper motor. I wouldn't think you would have to do that and the manual says you only have to resurface the commutator if it is rough. If you have to do it, it needs to be done in a lathe and any machinist can grind a tool bit like the C-770 tool to do the job. If you do have to resurface it, and don't have a machine shop near by that will do it reasonably, send it to me and I will do it for you. Les

Hi Les,

Thanks for the reply. :)
I will keep your name handy and if it is okay with you, would like to add your name to my friends list here.

Ralph, I am not a restorer so I don't know how much help I can be. I am a semi-retired tool & die maker so I know about machining, how to get the rear brake drums off and a limited knowledge about the fluid drive transmission. Will be glad to help with any of those if I can. Les
