I am seeking side trim and "Firedome" scripts for a 1958 4-door Firedome. I understand that a '58 Firesweep has the same trim, so I am obviously in that as well. Specifically, I am looking for:

1) Right side rear passenger door lower trim
2) Both rear lower panel trim pieces (under rear bumper) or bumper extenders
3) Both rear fin Firedome scripts.

These are the final pieces to make my restoration complete. Any help is greatly appreciated. Direct email is: MightyKahuna@Yahoo.com.

Michael

Bob: Thanx for the education. I was not aware of that. OK all my Desoto friends, if anyone has extra Firedome script for sale, for years 1955 to 1959, I am your guy.

Michael, try collectors auto supply and plug in part # 1810330 or 1810331 for the side trim. Their phone is 1-888-772-7848. I started with a '58 HT with with no body side moldings, and have found most. The pieces that I found were not in good shape, but fortunately, I found a gentleman in Houston that really did a nice job restoring the stainless. Also, there is a restoration shop near my home that informed me that they can fabricate straight pieces if they have a sample. (Not Cheap). Hope this helps Bill

Collectors Auto Supply were very helpful with the door molding. Does anyone know what the part numbers are for the lower trim or bumper extenders are for the lower rears?

I have a couple of confusing, vintage reference books here:

1958 "Bumper Guard, right" - 1820072 (1957 number is 1674930 or 1730310 ? )
"Bumper Guard, left" - 1820073 (1957 number is 1674931 or 1730311 ? )

Also listed are "Bumper Guard Wing, right" - 1820772
"Bumper Guard Wing, left" - 1820773
I'm not sure what they mean by the term "bumper guard wing", but there are no other bumper trim pieces listed in this book.

My other book seems to be listing the trim piece in between the bumper and the bumper guard as: 1756519 (driver's side) and 1756518 (passenger's side). These are the numbers for the 1957, but the parts themselves are the same as on the 1958 models.

Sorry that I can't be exact. The drawings in the books are a little vague, and they call what appear to me to be bumper extensions "bumper guards", so I'm not quite sure about these numbers...but maybe they'll be helpful in your search?

There were no part numbers stamped on the rear bumper extensions that I have. They are from a Firedome but they fit my Firesweep.

Good luck!

Hope it was of some help to you, Micheal.

The "bumper guards" were listed as costing about ten dollars in both of my old parts books.

I was guessing that those other parts might be the trim pieces that I think that you were looking for because they were listed as costing only two or three dollars.

Let us know how you make out!
