"I've got a '48 De Soto 4 Dr. that I hoped to restore. It is complete less engine. No dents, good glass. Some rust. Good Grille. Good title.
I can't work on it any longer due to ill health. I will give it to someone who will come and pick it up. I live in Colona, Illinois 61264. My name is Bill Johnson and my phone number is (309) 792-1943 or I can be reached through my email at: bill46john@hotmail.com.
I am located 180 miles west of Chicago, 1 mile from exit 7 on I-80.
Sincerely,
Bill Johnson"
(Wow! Just 350 miles SSE of the convention! Add to the itinerary?)
I have contacted Bill Johnson and told him I will take the car. It will help me finish my 47 that is going back to the body shop very shortly. Thanks for posting this Jeff.

Sounds like everyone is happy! All's well that ends well!
Glad it worked out!
Geoff
Tom, I am going to get the car on Sunday, I will let you know what I have after that.
Paul
I could use the Turn Signal switch
I'll let you know if it has a switch Rick, I don't know what is there or nor.
Paul
Paul,
I too could use some parts for my '48 Custom 4-dr sedan. In particular:
1. the small grill section that goes below the passenger-side turn signal (or the whole grill if you don't need it and it's in good shape and at a reasonable price),
2. right front splash pan (the horizontal metal piece that goes between the front bumper and the grill),
and 3. driver's side outside mirror if it's the original small-neck round mirror.
Unfortunately, I won't be going by your place on my way to and from the NDC convention, but I'm sure we can work out something if you're willing to part with these items.
Thanks.

Bill, I don't know if I will be parting it out or not. I will have to see what shape it is in. I know he was going to drive and restore it but the motor was bad and then his health went bad. I will let you know after I get it. Is the grill on the 48 the same as a 47. I have parts of a 47 grill I would have to look at to see how bad they are pitted.
Paul
Paul,
I've always been told that there are no differences between the 1947 S-11's and the 1948 S-11's. But in Butler's "The Plymouth and DeSoto Story", he states that there was a 38 lb decrease in weight going from 1947 to 1948, so something had to change. As far as I know, the grills were the same. Thanks.
Bill
I have got the car home. It is in fair shape. Sorry guys, I will not be parting it out at this time. Rick, it has a turn signal on it but it is broke. Bill, I do have a grill, I will take a picture of it and post it but it is not in the best of shape.
Paul
Bill, here is a picture of the grill I have, the center is pitted pretty bad, the end sections are fair. Let me know what you think.
Paul
Sorry, I can't get a picture to post. I haven't done it in a lone time and sometimes my computer doesn't like to post pictures.
