I was posting this on another car site this morning, and I thought that some DeSoto owners might be able to use this info as well. Some of you have likely already thought of this trick.
I've used "backer rods" in the past whenever I've been worried about water leaks during car washing sessions. I just stuff them into any gap that I think might allow water to go where it isn't wanted.
Backer rods are made of soft and flexible foam, and they are used by tile setters who stuff them into spaces between the tile field and a wall, or a bathtub, etc., in order to fill up a gap prior to caulking. This helps them to save money on caulking, and helps the caulking job go more quickly, and hopefully more neatly. I've used them when I've installed tile too...they work great!
Backer rods are usually for sale in the tile and flooring section of big box home improvement stores. They are not expensive, and come in a range of sizes. They can be easily cut to fit. They are water proof, and can be re-used if you're a bit careful with them.
Happy detailing!
"Rosy", I realize that you aren't a Tech Advisor (yet) but I appreciate your common (and not so common) sense posts to our message board. Every time I log on to this site, I scroll down to check out the names and will click on your's first!
This is some neat info that with your permission, will find itself into the pages of the DeSoto Adventures magazine, so "keep 'em coming"!
We continue to solicit tech article ideas from our Tech Advisors but seem to be getting them from everybody but them, so your (and other's) ideas are appreciated.
I just wish that we had more involvement from the membership such as yours.
Best regards as always,
