Hi guys as i posted in the brake line post. Im new to to board but have had a couple of desotos. i figured i would post a couple of pics of my desoto. i bought this car whem i was about 19 years old and i have had it for about 21 years now and it has been a bench tucked in the corner for way too many years now. It is a 57 firedome sportsman original paint never been painted.
I will keep every one posted on progress. But im planning on getting it back running and stopping so i can drive it this summer. The last time i ran it was about 10 years ago, and was amazed that it was running on some really old bad fuel. back then it had all the tune up stuff done ect. So im hoping that it will fire back up without too much work. I just got this last week a new tank sending unit ect. The tank is starting to leak and making the garage smell of old fuel.
Im planning on replacing the front pans they have a hand fully of holes here and there but not sure bad. It was parked around 1974 in a barn in north dakota. the brakes must of been bad because it had a can of brake fluid under the seat that ate tru the can and the floor in that spot. But here it is.
Cool! Keep us posted on your project as you bring it out of hibernation.
It's supposed to be fun!
1949 De Soto Custom Convertible (project)
thanks i will, this weekend im going to drop out the tank and work on the trunk floor. It is cracked where the gas tank braces are and there is alittle rust that needs to be taken care of. i will shoot some pics and post the progress.
Awesome car! I love it!
Cool DeSoto, Rocky! Good luck with your restoration efforts and I can't wait to see it on the road again!
well i have been plugging along on my car i replaced the front floor on the drivers side need to do the passangers side next. This was a pretty clean car but when it was paked in a barn in 1974 the windows were left up and a can of break fluid left under the seat. So that ate tru the can, the floor ect. And the moisture inside the car rusted the floors from the inside out. under the car looks good inside chip away the undercoat and tap on floors and i exposed the rust tru from the top side. So here is a pic of the dr side floors pans replaced
