I modified the steering column, added U-joints, installed a steering gear and power steering pump, and got the thing working.
Forget the double pulley I had asked about. They are made of unobtanium. I added a billet pulley, moved the radiator, and fabricated new brackets for the alternator and new pump.
I'll be testing and tweaking the system in May, dong general maintenance in June, and final prep in the first part of July, for the national convention.
I'll bring my notes and progress photos, and a tale of what not to do.
Donald,
A great "DeSoto Adventure" that should enhance the pages of the club magazine!
If you would please, send in your notes and photos to desotoadventures@gmail.com or mail a DVD or thumb drive to: Editor, DeSoto Adventures Magazine, 526 W. Main St., Mason, Ohio 45040-1626.
Speaking of "unobtainium", the March/April issue features Part One of Lee Exline's article on Parts Reproduction and is at the printers as this is written.
(Just a note for the "newer members". Unlike advertiser financed magazines that hit your mailboxes two to three months early, DeSoto Adventures tries to cover the events and topics that occur during the current months)

Don,
I want to beg, barrow, steel, pay or whatever is takes to get a copy of your photos, templates, notes, part numbers and the like. If I do not go the electric steering route, yours in the next logical solution.
James
Let me know when you are ready to pop, and I'll send you what I have. The PS works now, after I tweaked the pump mounting. I still have some shakedown cruising to do before the convention. (As of now the car is laid up while I'm replacing the clutch release bearing.)
My to-do list includes reinforcing the frame at the gearbox, per your suggestion.
There has been some chatter on the P15-D24 forum about electric pumps. That would solve the pulley difficulties. You may want to look into electric pumps.
I have your e-mail address. I think you have mine.
