Go to the resources tab and scroll down until you find Barrett Taft, our membership secretary and club librarian.

The club library is a hidden treasure that is underutilized for research. Barrett can typically find many answers and provide quality photocopies of helpful documents.

It's supposed to be fun!

Actually looks like it could be original. Someone else that has '56 interior books or pictures can verify it.

If is isn't original they sure went all out on a custom job. I don't know enough about these cars to know what belongs and what doesn't. Would love to see pictures from another 56 4 door in the same color or other colors. The headliner is pink on this car. Did Desoto have pink headliners?

Can anybody decode this body tag? Curious to know what the body color is. Does this tag also indicate interior colors? I'm not sure what the 035, 425, and 557 mean. Tried looking up color codes but didn't find any of these numbers.

thanks, Doug

From what I can tell, I think the car was originally white and pink. The gray on the inside of the trunk was a common color for all as the trunks many times were not painted body colors. My '59 has a black or real dark gray trunk and the car is medium blue metallic.

Yes they did have pink headliners with pink interiors.

Thanks for the info Fred. Did you have a way to decode the numbers? The trunk lid is gray on the underside. Would that have been common too? The picture attached shows the gray.

I found this color chart that includes two tone colors. It indicates pink upper and white lower for code 425.

Is the roof considered the upper color?

Still would like to know what the interior or trim number 557 is.

The sweep is considered the lower color, and the roof is painted to match. The rest of the body is the "upper" color.

The pink that is on the ebay car is NOT shell pink. Shell pink is a much nicer color. Here's an image of a shell pink/white car.

Yes, I can tell it's a brighter pink. So if the sweep is the lower color then my car is reversed from what code 425 indicates right?

Yes I would say so.

When I get the car I'll have to look under the dash etc to see if I can spot original colors.

Barrett Taft at the club library should be able to help you out with that.

Is this car coming from the west coast? Cars built in the Los Angeles plant were finished differently than cars built in Detroit. I am used to seeing Detroit built Fireflites having trunk lids painted body color on the underside. LA cars I have seen with the gray underside.

Yes car has been in California since new. We think it spent most of its life in Southern California. Still wears black plates which were distributed in 63.

Still waiting to hear from Barrett......

Found out that code 557 is pink cloth. SMS says it's 3 different colors that are used on the seats. They are sending me samples. Would still like to see pictures of 4 door interiors to see what they are supposed to look like.
