I'm Bart and I'm from the Netherlands and last summer I bought a '57 Desoto Firesweep in the Netherlands and it's from the States. I'm now preparing the car for the Dutch DMV. It's a completely original car without any rust.
But I'm still searching for a right upper control arm. It's hard to find some Desoto car parts here in the Netherlands. So I was wondering if somebody could help me?
I bought two NOS control arms on Ebay but they are from a Windsor so they are useless.
I recently found an upper control arm at Big M autos, so I hope I get the parts fast so I can go back to work! About the Desoto, she stays in original condition but I only prepare the car for the dutch DMV. But there are some technical issues: total rebuild of the front end, new bushings, suspension, brakes, ball joints, rod ends etc. The old control arms and other stuff I sandblasted and powdercoated. The bolts and nuts are yellow galvanized. Here a small impression from old to new:
Bart...forgot to mention that you can see many wonderful Firesweeps in the "Photo Gallery" here at this site.
Just click on the "Photo Gallery" heading listed on the left hand of this screen, about a dozen headings down in the list. Or you can click on the "Photo Gallery" tab on the extreme, upper right hand side of this screen.
The members of this site sure have some really nice cars!
Bart, as everyone has said, welcome! I'm the 1957 tech advisor for the club, and will to my best to help you with any issue you have. If you've been to my web site ( http://www.angelfire.com/de/petrus/ ) you know that I maintain a database of all 1957 DeSotos that I can find. I have the motor number from your car, and lots of pictures of it, but I don't have the VIN. If you don't mind sharing that, I'd appreciate it. You can email me directly if you wish at desoto@pathway.net
