Acquired a (NOS?) RF fender - was told it was for '47. Has part number stamped under the headlight hole -1242678. Can anyone verify ? Anyone need this fender?
The parts book shows the part # for the right front fender for 46-48 DeSotos is 1242673. Don't see #1242678 in the book. Could your 8 be a 3 instead?

Yes, quite possible - it is kind of dark back there in the shed! Thanks for your help. John
I have '46 "Parts List" book - On page 85 it lists Fender, front right assembly - Group # 12-01-5 and part number 1148 417. (?) !
Hi John,
The reason you found two different part numbers is because there are early and late front fenders on 1946-1948 S11's. When the new larger tires became available they had to change the front fenders to accommodate them (to avoid scraping). The 1946 parts book with the lower number is the early fender, and it sounds like you have a late fender. They also had to change the front fender moulding as well, and that has two different part numbers. I believe the main difference there is that they had to remove one of the mounting studs due to the fender change. Hope that helps explain the part number mystery!
