My 1953 Firedome is in the hands of a pro trip shop, but they are concerned over how the headliner should be installed at the rear - adjacent to the rear window. It seems to them that the window needs to be removed in order to install that part of the headliner, but they're hoping this is not the case. Can anyone comment on this? Can anyone provide me with a photo of what the headliner looks like at the rear window? (I purchased my car with no headliner in place.)
Thank you!!

Hi Tim -- I just had the headliner replaced in my '53 Firedome, but it's a wagon. My windows were all framed with garnish strips, so no windows needed to come out -- just took all the strips off. Sedan could be different.
The tack strips above the windows were badly rusted on my car. I bought a set of used ones from a salvage yard but didn't use them. They appear to be from a sedan. My guy preferred to staple the headliner in (the wagon's is vinyl and pretty tough) and then tack a special ribbon over the headliner staples. If you can use the tack strips, PM or email me. Be glad to get them out of my garage.
Here are some photos.

To be done correctly, the rear glass most likely needs to be removed. The material typically glues into the glass channel prior to the weatherstrip for the rear glass is installed.
The front glass can usually stay in, although my upholstery guy always appreciates it that we have the headliners installed before any glass goes in.
It's supposed to be fun!
