In 2013, during our convention at Lake Elmo, MN, Alan Ralston presented awards and recognition to those members who had attended 10 or more of our conventions with the same De Soto. This group became known as the Loyal Order of De Sotos. As of 2015, two De Sotos have been to 2/3rds of our conventions having made it to 20 out of the 30 shows. Those two cars belong to Nancy and Donnie George, from Nappanee, IN, with their 1957 Firesweep 2-door Sportsman; and Greg Walters, from Piqua, OH, with his 1956 Firedome sedan.
Unfortunately, being a member of the Loyal Order of De Sotos doesn’t really get you very much. The club looked into waiving the convention registration fees for the Loyal Order of De Sotos members, but that didn’t work out financially. So, besides bragging rights, you’ll probably get recognized during our Awards Banquet at our conventions, but not much else.
Here is my list of those members who currently qualify for the Loyal Order of De Sotos:
Name De Soto # of NDC Conventions
Nancy and Donnie George 1957 Firesweep 2-dr Sportsman 20
Greg Walters 1956 Firedome sedan 20
Janet and Wayne Newman 1930 CK rumble seat roadster 18
Barb and Bruce Irwin 1956 Firedome sedan 15
Lois and Dan Dolan 1942 Custom club coupe 12
Sue and Les Fairbanks 1952 Custom sedan 12
Gordon Matthews 1955 Firedome sedan 12
Glenn Colburn 1959 Firesweep 2-dr Sportsman 10
Bob Lenio 1959 Fireflite convertible 10
Andrew MacFarland 1953 FireDome 8-pass. sedan 10
Betty and Ron Manolio* 1950 Custom sedan 10
Evie and Pete McNicholl 1953 Powermaster club coupe 10
Nancy and George Wuszke 1957 Adventurer hardtop 10
There are four members (Joe Moss, with his 1941 Custom business coupe; Janet and Carmel Murray*, with their 1931 CK 4-door sedan; Bobbi Youngblood, with her 1947 Custom convertible; and Joe Youngblood, with his modified 1948 Custom 4-door sedan) who are currently at 9 conventions. So should they attend our convention this year with their De Soto, they too will join the ranks of the Loyal Order of De Sotos.
(*Unfortunately, both Ron Manolio and Carmel Murray have passed away. I believe, however, that their families still own their De Sotos. So if the widows should attend with their De Sotos, it would still count towards the Loyal Order of De Soto.)
If you believe that I’ve left your name off of this Loyal Order of De Sotos list, please contact me so that we can compare notes; thanks.
