I lost my only key to my '52 Chrysler Imperial.
How do I go about making a replacement key?
(I also have five old DeSotos, by the way)
Dear Jon,
Is your car unlocked? If it is, and you know how to remove the ignition cylinder, remove it and take it to a locksmith and have three keys made.
I say three keys because one is for regular car use. The second key I always carry on my person just in case I lock the first key in the car (which I've done). And the third key is always left at home as added insurance.

I bought a Cagiva motorcycle with no key. A local locksmith was able to whip one up in short order. It was also very reasonable.
Good Luck
