Hi Tom,
Thnak you for the info on the lamps, gotta get them ordered...
I tried a lamp, type 55 that works but the 37 may be brighter.
Thanks again mu friend.

How is the hood ornament illuminated? Mine looks like solid chrome. Do you mean the badge at the tip of the hood? I do have a bulb on a bracket dangling behind the grille that I can't figure out where it goes or what it lights up. Pictures would be nice! Pic of front of my 46 attached. Do not have pic of bracket with bulb at this time.
You may have had an after market hood ornament on the car at one time. They were designed to light up when you turned on the headlights and usually wired into them so they operate at the same time. Sometime later the original owner may have switched back to the original flying lady in chrome and sold the clear Lucite flying lady or kept it. When I found mine, it was mint and cost me $500.00. Can't wait till I have one of my 47 Suburbans on the road.

It's my understanding that in 1946 & 1947, the DeLuxe models came with the chrome flying lady and the Custom models came with the Lucite flying lady as standard equipment. Then, in 1948, the chrome flying lady became standard for both the DeLuxe and Custom models, with the Lucite flying lady being a $10 option for either series. Unfortunately for me, my S-11 is a '48 Custom, so it has the chrome flying lady. (And too bad it's still not a $10 option!!)
