I am looking for the clips (5 per wheel) that are secured to the metal wheel rim by rivets in 1946-50 DeSoto wheels. The "baby moon" (or dog dish) type hubcaps then snap in place over these clips.

Anyone knowing where I might get these, sure would appreciate the help. I only need b 5 of them for a spare tire wheel. I tried all the usual sources (Bernbaum, Roberts Motor Parts, Old Mopar sources, etc.)

The Wheel Covers of a 1950 De Soto are held by the same Clips and Wheel
Device used on all 1947 to 1955 De Soto's or Six Cylinder Chrysler's.

*
They are a full size "Wheel Cover" and not a Hub Cap/ "Dog Dish".
*

The only difference from the two division's is De Soto painted The Wheel
the same colour of the car and all Six Cylinder Chrysler's have a Black
Colour.

*
Imperial and Eight Cylinder Chrysler's do not fit your 1950 De Soto.

Plymouth and Dodge have a narrower width for the Tyre ( think of a
Pizzia Cutter ).
*

These were assembled by the wheel maker's and if they later "had issue's"
the complete wheel was replaced vs trying to repair a clip or two.

If you say were you are located --- just maybe some one local to you has
what you need ( A Wheel ).

It is my understanding that 1946**, 1947,1948, and first series 1949 all used the large clips in the center of the wheel and the "dog bowl" hubcaps. At least on all Custom models. Second Series 1949 and on used the one part type of hub cap that had the clips built into the hubcap.

On my 1947 Desoto I use a set of late 1949 Deluxe caps which are the 1946-1948 style caps that have been mechanically swedged onto a steel outer. The 1949 Custom caps look almost the same but are a one part stainless steel. What I did, since I had new rims made for the 1947, was to paint the steel part black. On the car unless you have a very keen eye, you cannot tell the difference.

The early 1946 Long Wheel Base Cars, Desoto Suburban, Limo's, and Chrysler 8's had a different shape to the wheel and different clips. Be advised.

I think you can get clips from:

Dennis Bickford
Vintage Woodworks
PO Box 1132
LaLuz, NM 88337
575-443-1160

Dennis makes a lot of parts for Chrysler Town & County Woodies. A number of his parts are also correct for 1946-1949 Desoto. He has some clips made, a friend ordered some, that my be the same as the Desoto six. You need to check with him to make sure that they are not different from the eights.

Best, James

To James

You are correct on the details of the lil changes that happened in time.
My mind clicked on The 1949-50 Wheel Cover Part and "got stuck".

Then it partly saw through the fog that 1955 was the last year they
used bolts that held the wheel on.

Now that we've got the lil details correct - will he be able to find re-placement
clips or will he need to locate another wheel or ...what ???
