I just got some Coker tires mounted for the '61 Desoto that I am restoring. The wheels needed the normal type of clip on (tap on) wheel weights. However, they are in the way of mounting the original hubcaps. Should these weights be mounted only on the back side of the wheel? Thanks.

I have several 60 & 61 DeSoto's and they take the same hub caps. They all have wheel weights on the outside with wheel covers installed. Are you sure you have the correct wheels and caps? I can send pictures if you need.

For a good dynamic balance the weights may need to go on either side. If the weights your guy uses get in the way, ask him to use the glue on variety. I don't know why, but most tire shops won't use them unless you ask.

Good Luck
Steve

Ron: These are the original wheels and original hubcaps. The weights are definitely in the way. It should not be like this I know but the hub caps are not going to go on with these weights (which are typical) on. I am going to have to get them balanced on the back side (for which I am sure they will charge me all over again.)
