hello thanks to everyones help on here i ordered my brake drum from hidden valley auto salvage. (= now here comes th equestion how in the heck do you put it on it seems striaght forward but at the same time intimidating. di o need special tools which i dont have anyone kinda guide me in right direction. after i install this she will be ready drive after nearly a year of work (= finally thought this time would never come (= yet here it is !!!!!
Install the square key in the keyway slot then line up the drum with the key and slide on. Put washer on axle then install nut, torque as tight as you can with socket and 1/2" pull bar. (note, you may have to turn the shoe adjusting cams to move shoes in if the replacement drum is less worn than the one being replaced)
thank you for your time and help (= do i need to grees up axle ?? it took me 4 hours to get the damaged drum off. does it go on way easier than it come off ?? thank you so much !
DO NOT GREASE THE AXEL Someone just over torqued
the nut tighten like you would a lug nut
Off the top of my head 85-100 ft lbs of torque. Too loose is real bad and will lead to ruined drum and axle. The taper shaft should be put together clean and should not come apart easily.
Have a nice day
Steve
