The speedometer in my 55 DeSoto has starting bouncing at low mph and when you slow down below 30 mph. The cable has been removed, cleaned, lubricated and inserted back in the housing. It did help some but the bounce is still there. Has anyone experienced this? If so how did you correct the problem.
The head and cable were rebuilt a couple of years ago and worked fine until lately.
Please fell free to contact me with any suggestions. Cell # (281)745-7541 or send e-mail to me at 53dragon@pdq.net or my friends e-mail at st1hawk@hotmail.com.

This is not an uncommon problem. Since the bouncing was not eliminated with proper lubrication, you may have the cable binding on the housing sometimes caused by having too sharp of a turn in its routing. The service manual addresses this below. Mac

Isn't there an opportunity to oil the speedometer head? I remember a fitting on the back of the speedometer housing that unscrewed and exposed a wick that you could put some light oil on which would then provide some lubrication to the speedometer itself.

It's supposed to be fun!
