Can anyone tell me if the large single adjusting bolt in the headlight bucket goes to the bottom or top? Or, which way the bucket goes into the hole. It has been 2 years since I took it out and I do not remember. The master parts books are not all the same as to direction.
Thanks, James
James,
I am assuming this is for your 1949 DeSoto Custom since I didn't see any headlights on earlier this week.

For what it is worth, My '56 has two adjusters, the adjusting screws are on the top and the one on the side is towards the right side of the car. Both buckets are the same. I have no clue on a '49, I have never seen an adjusting screw on the bottom on any car. However, the cars were all a little newer than the '49.

Took a look at the '49 sedan at a friends shop and the big screw goes down for the cover ring.
