I picked up an Airtek part #4343 fuel pump for my DeSoto at a swap meet which was listed for the car, but in looking at what is on my car, its not the same. My car has a larger coarse thread outlet fuel line fitting and the inlet is a slip on fitting for a rubber hose. In looking my pump looks like the Carter M6866 unit. Is that supposed to fit a '56 DeSoto? What is the correct fuel pump? Is the flex fuel line a larger coarse thread fitting on one end to a smaller fine thread at the original pump? My car has a rubber hose from where the flex line would be with an inline filter to the fuel pump.

The fuel pump on my 56 went out in June, I happened to be in the parking lot of my local parts store. I went in, ordered the pump & had it the next day. It didn't appear to be nothing special as far as ordering. I can get the stock # if you need it.

That would be great. I thought I had a proper spare and either I was mistaken or the pump that is on the car wasn't the exact style that its supposed to be. The pump I had as a spare had two fine thread female fittings and the pump on the car has one larger coarse thread female fitting and the other (the in) is a male where the fuel line is clamped on.

I have some old rebuilt and NOS pumps on the shelf. I wouldn't recommend using them because the new gasahol destroys the old parts quickly. Probably best to buy new or get your old one rebuilt using modern modern diaphragm and seals.

Have a nice day
Steve
