Part No. 1242673 Still in primer gray with minor surface rust and scratches from storage and moving around. Since it was given to me for nothing, free to club members* but I had to drive 200 miles to save it from the scrapyard so I wouldn't mind being reimbursed for my fuel cost. Located 20 miles west of Philadelphia PA. I have no idea how it could be shipped or what it would cost. lynnj23@verizon.net
Just an FYI for anyone interested, I had a '42 NORS fender shipped by Greyhound from NE Pennsylvania to Cincinnati on Greyhound for under $50.00 back in the late '90's. Also, a front cut of a '42 front end (110#) shipped from the Seattle, WA area, also to Cincinnati for under $200.00 around that same time.
The only drawback is that you have to pick it up from the local Greyhound terminal. I just did manage to get the fender into my 420SEL with very little space left for me to drive.
BTW, FedEx quoted me $950.00 for shipping the front cut from WA and that was AFTER crating!
Happy De Sotoing (and Merry Christmas if I don't get back on here beforehand)
Geoff
I could be talked into taking the fender off of you if you still have it. Can you figure out a way to get its weight? Maybe holding it while on a scale and then weighing yourself again without it? Need your zip code and city with the weight when you answer back.
There are usually small businesses that have a post office inside while they pack and ship items for customers. Often they work with UPS and FedEx along with the USPS. I'll look for a company that does that when I hear back from you.
I have two 47 Suburbans along with a 40 sedan and work on getting them restored. I don't want to use one for parts and end up with a shell sitting there.
Any members reading this please take notice that I am looking for additional suburbans to purchase and restore. Looking primarily for 46 thru 48 even though they did make them a few more years. Just love the body style!! The looks you get when people see one for the first time is priceless!!
My email is t.north_asm@yahoo.com. I'm medically retired from the Marine Corps and can't work. Gives me lots of time to work on anyone of the three. 40 into a daily driver with updated chassis for long trips, same with one of the 47's and restoration with the other one. How many different paint combinations did Desoto come out with those years?!! Now where did I leave those lottery numbers at again?
If you have one in class 3, 4, or 5 please contact me if you might be interested in selling or have extra parts. I'll even take on a search with a good lead.
Do any members know of a company that can reproduce the corner and side chrome pieces for the roof rack? I have one with all the correct parts that I could let them use as a pattern to reproduce units for fellow members.
Sooooo John, whenever you find the time.
God Bless to all and give your keys to that teenager you brought to the company Christmas party. Safe driving every one and have a blessed start to the new year.
Tom
Just in case anyone plans on shipping something like that fender half way cross the country, know that it is just under $1,000 to ship 135lbs from Pennsylvania to Texas using UPS!!!!! Hey, but I got a new fender!!!!! Thanks John. Merry Christmas everyone
OMG - I had no idea it would cost that much. The fender couldn't have weighed more than 50 pounds - Must have been a lot of packaging!
