Is there any information on this forum re engines, options, transmissions, etc?
If not, is there another forum that might have information re these items?
Desoto specific
Thanks
Jim
Jim, ask any specific question about options on Desoto's and someone will have an answer. The model year coordinator for any year will probably know. If not, McArthur George is a walking encyclopedia of information on Desoto's and answers many questions on options etc..
Hola Jim
Are your questions related to The 1956 De Soto that you have been posting
about ... ?
Engine
330 Cubes in either 2 bbl or 4 bbl ( for every 4 bbl made --- there are over
200 two bbl.'s
Transmission
Three Speed Manual is listed. Only what seems as 10% of the total production
run has them.
The Power-Flite Automatic is with most 1956 De Soto's.
Rear Axle Ratio
What is installed depends on which transmission and something else.
Radio
Two version's of an AM.
Hwy Hi-Fi if the Model 911 Radio is used. This was a rare option.

Hi Roger
Yes, as regards your question, it is about the 56 Fireflite that I'm looking at.
It has a 4 bbl carb, and a powerflite transmission (supposedly recently rebuilt).
As the car is several hours away from me, I'd really like to chat with someone knowledgeable before I make the trek to see it in person.
It has factory Power Steering, power brakes, and factory AC.
How much of anything that works is unknown at this time. Owner says it runs and drives?
Car appears in photos to be rust free and the owner says the same.
I'm really interested in knowing what to look for other than rust:
Brakes as an example, Emergency brake on driveshaft? Dual wheel cylinders on front brakes? Left hand thread on drivers side wheels? Things of interest
Thanks a lot, Roger, appreciate the help.
Regards
Jim

Most '56 DeSotos have rust, and yes, it is free; no extra charge!
