OK... So I am embarrassed to admit that I seem to have lost my keys to my 1949 Custom. What is your suggestion for the best way to handle this problem? Should I look at replacing just the tumbler or does the whole switch have to be replaced? Any relative part numbers would also be extremely helpful.
Thanks!
If the door lock is the same as the ignition key pull the door lock
out and take it to a locksmith and have a key made.Or remove the
ignition switch and take that.
I called a locksmith today and should hear back from them tomorrow morning. The problem that I am having is that the holding pin on the tumbler will not depress all the way to let me take it out of the switch. I fear that you have to have the key turned in order for it to function properly. I would prefer not to have to drill out the tumbler.... If anyone has any further suggestions, please let me know.
remove the whole ignition switch and take that to a locksmith
TIP: When you remove the switch, make sure you tag every wire according to which terminal it was on to aid reassembly. Maybe even make a diagram. I recently had to do this with my '46 - only took the locksmith one day and cost about $35.
