I saw a NOS distributor listed on eBay and it looked like the right one as a spare for my car. So I double checked what was on my car - IBJ4302A and that didn't match what was listed - IBJ4302. So I looked in my Hollander to see if it would work and to my surprise it would - because my car currently has the WRONG distributor on it? It seems what I have on my S24 (Had the car for 10 years - runs great) is what they list for the S23 2BBL. Hmm, so what's the difference? Best I can tell some spec differences on the vacuum advance and the advance is set differently for a S23 vs S24. Needless to say I bought the eBay one but I'm not sure that I need to be in a hurry to install it?

The specs for all 3 different distributors listed in the '56 DeSoto shop manual are very similar. I'm guessing the main difference is the vacuum unit and the mechanical advance springs.

Rule #1 If it ain't busted, don't fix it!

Have a nice day

I have a 39 Desoto and on my car there were two different model Autolite Dizzy's used IGS4102C and IGS4102. I have the IGS4102C installed which came with my car. There is no documentation that lists the difference but as some have stated it could be the vacuum advance and springs.

So yes you can have different model but it is always go to have a backup. I also have a Hollander and it lists as a third the IGS4102D that was used in dodge trucks as a third potential dizzy.
