Seems I remember someone wanting to know where to find a DeSoto Taxi from the 40s. As of this posting, there is a '47 on Kansas City Craigslist;
"needs restored,
has jump seats in back, good drive train,
missing wood rack on top & rocker chrome,
straight 6/3 speed, rebuilt engine, solid body but some surface rust,
originally blue, supposedly a Pendergast car"
Pendergast car? Bet the taxis had jump seats. Any thoughts?
Looks to be a Suburban to me. Over the 46-48 (and early 49) production run there were a total of 7500 Suburbans made.
Yes, it is a Suburban. It's located in downtown KC and has been for sale for several years.

Yes I found an piece in the Oct. issue of Hemmings Classic Car about the DeSoto Taxis. They were much like the Limo including the jump seats but they came with, what we now would call, a moon-roof. In order to ease urban congestion all were summarily retired, bought up and shipped to Israel where they could still be seen as early as the sixties.
Also Pendergast refers to the political machine in KC from whence sprang Harry Truman.
