According to my Autolite Cross reference catalog the catalog states that the correct Starter Solenoid for the 46-38 Desoto would be SS4705. All of the current owners of these year cars have discovered that this starter solenoid can no longer be found. So some unknown reason there are none being sold at the major and local swap meets.
It seems odd that with so many 46-48 Desotos produced during that time frame that there would be some available.

I came across an Autolite document that states that the Desoto 46-48 used the Autolite Solenoid model SS-4707 and that the SS 4705 was used only on the 1942 models.

So the question what is the correct solenoid that is on our 46-48 Desoto's.

So if you have a 46-48 Desoto can you look in you engine compartment and the look at the plate on the starter and record the number it might be MAX-4050.

Then if you can then look at the plate that bolts the solenoid onto the top of the stater motor can you let us know what that number is, it is going to be either SS-4705 or SS-4707. You might have to clen the plate because the number is stamped into the plate. Might want to rub some chalk to see if you can get the number.

Any help would be appreciate,. If the 4707 is used then this might solve a big issue for a lot of the owners.

You can send me you results via email or even call me Cell 484-431-8157, home 610-630-9188 or email at Desoto1939@aol.com
