My wife was talking to people about the convention and they mentioned something that may be a concern
The American Civil War went from 1861-1865 so we are in the midst of 150th anniversities of events. Depending on the event, locales are having celebrations, re-enactments and the like in honor of the 150th anniversity
Chatanooga, Lookout Mountain certainly were in the war.
Does anyone know of any major batttle, event etc that happened in Chatanooga late in July 1862 that might cause the town to be filled with people interested in honoring the event? Translated -fill up all the motels before we get here
Any way to find out?
Hi, Bob.
A battle for control of Chattanooga was won by the South in September (1863?). But a larger, perhaps more famous battle for control of Chattanooga was won a few months later by the North (November).
Contacting the Chattanooga city hall would likely provide contact information regarding possible Civil War reinactments in the Chattangooga area for the upcoming year.
(Other than the possible accommodation headaches, it might be fun to find ourselves in the midst of a city-wide Civil War reinactment. )
If there was something going on in Chatanooga at the same time I don't think it will be a problem for us. Apparently the host hotel will let us reserve the entire hotel, over 100 rooms. The hosts are hoping we can fill the hotel so it will be ours for the four days. Probably won't happen but would be nice. I would suggest to anyone that is considering going to go ahead and make a reservation. You can cancel up to thirty days out and there isn't a penalty. If you cancel within thirty days you pay for one night.
