I would like to say thanks for letting me in. I would not be here had my father not past late last year. In his last year he ended up a broken person by neighbors that had no concept of keeping the past alive. One and half years ago he had at last count 87 cars and trucks on his little 5 acres in the country. Hudson, Studebaker, Chevy, Fords and more then I can remember. The county came in and made him get rid of them. Trying to salvage what he could he ended up thinking he had good deal together and ended up loosing all but 2 of his cars, 4 horse trailer, flat bed tilt car trailer and a 67 Chevy pickup. He talked alot about fixing them up. So in in his passing he left 2 cars for me and my brother. 1964 Ford Galaxy 500 4 door and a 1959 Desoto Firedome 4 door. My brother only wanted the pickup so I took the 2 cars and trailors. I am giving the cars to my daughters as they use to spend the summers with him and he drove them around in them. He had them parked for awhile due to some issues with both of them. So now I have them, well they are not here yet. I have made a trip up north to pickup some of the family things and with the trip found my 2002 Dodge pickup is not going to be able to tow them back, it has no power. I was warned before I bought it that it was not that good of a truck due to engine size, 308. So I have to regroup and come up with a backup plan and try and use my 1996 Dodge 4x4 for the trip. I hope to get them here and not like my 1958 Chevy Apache pickup, fix them with my girls. I hope this forum will be a good place to start the plan on what it will take, how to do it properly and complete them, not like the Chevy in the back yard still waiting. I would like to post my pictures but do not see where that is to do so. I will look around some more and see if I can figure it out. Thanks again for reading and look forward to talking with others here.
Hi Lee, welcome to the web site and congratulations on acquiring a DeSoto. 1959 is one of my favorite DeSoto's but I don't know a lot about them. There are others in here that do know about 59's and will be able to answer any questions you have. If you click on resources on the left column and scroll down to model year coordinators you will see Alan Ralston is the 1959 coordinator. Alan doesn't post a lot on here but send him an e-mail and I am sure he will help in any way he can.
Unfortunantly, your account of the county making your dad get rid of his old cars is way to common and it is sad.
It is interesting that on another thread we are discussing how to get younger people interested in the old car hobby and DeSotos in particular. I think it is great you have your daughters involved in restoring old cars.
As I said, I can't help much with your 59 but want to welcome you to the forum. If you can post some pictures of your car we would like to see it. Ask any questions you have I am sure someone will have the answers. Les
Welcome Lee, it's great to have you as a member. Sorry to hear about your father's cars but at least he was able to save the DeSoto. You'll find this club very welcoming and there are members who love to share their love for DeSoto's and information about them. You'll find an area for posting pictures just below the "submit" button you used to post your first message. Good luck with the 59!

Welcome, Lee!
Sorry to hear the sad way that your father lost his cars. You have some great vehicles you can preserve for the future, and for your daughters to enjoy and be proud of.

I guess I must be misunderstanding something on the system. On the right hand column under My Account is says I do not have a gallery and have not created an album. I thought that is where they would go?
