Alan looked forward to attending the National Desoto convention each year. He loved catching up with friends and meeting new members. He wanted everyone to feel welcome and to share in their enthusiasm for the cars and the club.
Thank you for celebrating Alan’s life. I believe he would smile his cheeky smile and feel very honored and happy to know he is fondly remembered. I was overcome with emotion while reading the article. Thank you to all the contributors and to everyone who holds Alan joyously in their heart.
With gratitude and love,
Maria Ralston
Dear Maria,
The article was the very first thing I read after receiving my magazine and I so much wish my wife and I had an opportunity to meet both of you. We just lost our sister-in-law on May 11th after a three year battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you.
As an owner of a '59 DeSoto for about three years now, I can relate to the passion Alan had for these fine automobiles. DeSotos have been a part of our lives since my father was a DeSoto dealer beginning in 1946 and had always been his favorite car even after they were discontinued and he then got the Chrysler line. I guess it sort of proves the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree as I too love DeSotos. The one I have is very close to the one he had back in 1958 when the '59s were introduced - same color and style but his was a Firedome and mine is a Firesweep. That is why I bought it as I knew I would not likely get a second chance.
I am bidding for the 2018 National to be held here in Branson, MO and would have loved for you and Alan to be here in the event it comes to fruition. Hopefully you will consider doing so. Still more than a year away but the excitement is building and I am optimistically looking forward to it.
Warmest DeSoto regards,
Fred and JoAnn Roman
