How about the 56 Desoto conv that just went for 335000.00 bucks at barrett jackson.

I think those people have more money than brains
There were obvious authenticity issues, but I thought it was a really attractive car. Nice to see some bidders fighting over one of our own.
It's supposed to be fun!

Both of you guys are right. It was a beautiful car. Did they have that purple color in 56?
I don't know what the original paint was on that car, but those colors were a possibility. I have a 56 FF Sportsman 2dr in my shop with that combo, but opposite. Lavender and Iridescent plum.

Kind of weird to see that it had a 'bat wing' air cleaner with a single four barrel. I also find it ironic that a black & gold 56 Adventurer went for less than half of that ($154K, which is still crazy money)...
The consignor probably tried to sneak that picture of the single four barrel setup due to deadlines for photographs for the brochure. It had a dual 4 setup when it went through the auction.

Tim,
that is a good point they said it was the dual four barrels. That 56 adventurer was nice.

This car is going to be auctioned off again at Tulsa 2011 June 10-12.
Makes me wonder how much money actually changed hands. What will it "sell" for this time?

Auction results are not posted yet, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Here it is! Lot 490 was a no sale at a high bid about half of the previous auction's high bid. Another 56 Fireflite was also a no sale at 267K. I don't know if this was the same car or what. See the link.

"The Desoto ended up going across the auction block twice and it did not sell either
time - Lot No. 490 was a no sale for $165,000 and then it went across on Sunday as
Lot No. 789 and was a no sale again for $267,500."
That's from Leake.
