just wanted to update this. a week after i sent the fuel pump in i got a call from the fellows at goulds wherein they told me that the pump was complete and ready to be shipped out. i paid them via credit card over the phone and the very next day i had the fuel pump in hand. i wouldnt believe that this was my pump. it looks BETTER than brand new. my only gripe that i have is the way it was packaged. knowing that shipping companies use boxes as soccer balls, i would have thought they would have at least wrapped the pump in bubble wrap or something, but it was only wrapped in a few pieces of newspaper. not the biggest deal in the world, but then again, if it has been damaged in transit, it probably would have been a issue. i plan on installing the new pump tomorrow and taking her for a long drive up north to a cigar shop and having a rather large stogie on the way! ill post some photos at a later date.

Josh

Josh -

Can you post a photo of the fuel pump ? I'd like to see what the original 55 Desoto fuel pump looks like, since a lot of folks have replaced this with more modern fuel pumps.

yessir, i can do that. so i installed the new pump today and had a tough time getting the fuel to flow for the first time so a little tip for those of you who are installing a new pump and need to get the fuel flowing. i took a piece of tubing that was sized to slide over the vent tube in the carb, inserted a turkey baster in the other side of the hose, took the bulb off and used a squeeze bottle to fill the carb. after a few cranks, she fired up and ran great. give me a few minutes to upload pics of the pump from my phone and ill post them up.

by the way, the final price, with rebuild and shipping to and from goulds was 125 for my single action carter. fyi, i live in pa so the shipping was nominal.

edit-i dug up an old photo where you can see the old pump, its not a good close up shot but it gives you some reference.
