Hi all, im still trying to figure out things with my 54 and having no luck doing so. I think ive asked this before here but got no replies but thought id try again lol.
I asked Paul the 54 guy and he was extremely helpful but unable to answer my q. I own the workshop manual and a few sales brochures but they also do not help me. I have also searched (and searched) but not found the info i am after.
In fact, it would seem that there is no photos of the interior of a 54 firedome (nobody opens them?) I have downloaded a bunch of photos of 53s and 55s! Even if someone can point me in the direction of another expert i would greatly appreciate it!
While there is quite a while before i will be getting around to doing anything on the vehicle i will sleep better knowing the answers to these questions!
So i have a 54 Club Coupe, exterior colour code 372 (aztec yellow/black roof) and the trim is 384 (ive been told that is green cloth).
My questions
- The interior door jambs are a greeny colour, is that factory? i'm used to door jambs being the same as the exterior vehicle colour!
- Secondly, in regards to seat fabrics am i correct in assuming both the seat base and back rest should be matching like my rear seat and not like the front? .back of front seat
In this case however that would mean the interior is vinyl-like rather then cloth? (the upper section on the front seat is cloth, the lower of the front seat and upper and lower of the rear are vinyl-like)
- Third, what would the original colours of these seats been? i dont think 30 years in the CA sun helped the interior - would it have been light green inserts in dark green outer? (refer above photos)
-Fourth, the head lining (what type of fabric and what colour) and with the carpet (what type of fabric and what colour?)
- Fifth (and last, sorry!) would i also be correct in assuming the door cards colour scheme matches that of the seat (the darker strip being the same as the darker section of the seat and the lighter section being the same as the lighter part of the seat?)
Thanks so much all
Ben.

Ben, I am not sure if you are referring to me as the 54 guy. I have a 53 and know some about the 54 since there are some similarities. I would have to say concerning the Aztec yellow paint code that there is something not quite right. The car was obviously the greenish color since it even goes into the door jambs and your original interior also reflects that to be the color. I would double check the exterior color code. The fabric in a 54 interior - I am not sure about. I am going to check the 54 that was put on Ebay a week or so ago. I met the Owner once here in Arizona, USA.
Ben, I looked on ebay for the 54 and could not find it anymore. It could still be there somewhere. It could provide clues. Also, a Google search could help. OR better yet one of our 54 members.
Ben
Hope your recovery is going well.
It appears to me that the upholstery shown on your front seat back rest is the original. I was the one who told you your trim code was for green fabric. Your inserts would have been light green fabric with a darker green fabric in the bolster areas. There would have been vinyl on the back side of your front seat. I believe the door panels would have been vinyl with colors matching the cloth in the seats.
Your paint code is for a yellow body with a black top. The door jams would have been painted yellow. They now appear to be green. I assume your car was repainted green during its lifetime. Can you find any evidence that the body was originally yellow? Your serial number tag appears to have been removed and replaced without any screws or rivets.
You may have the 54 sales brochure. I will attach a picture of the interior of a 4 door Firedome from the brochure which would be similar to your two door.

Thankyou gents! Paul i meant Paul Beyer who under the club roster is the '54 guy. Thanks for looking for that car on ebay, i looked at it when it was for sale and unfortunatly there was only exterior photos. Google unfortunatly also only really has exterior photos that i found.
I still dont have the car so am going off the photos. Car is still on a container somewhere in the pac ocean with everything else i own!
The guy i bought it from said he aquired it in the late 70's and it hadnt moved since. I cant find that much evidence of the body ever being green - and the drivers door jamb does have an old service sticker on it that has the year marked as 72 so if they were painted (which makes sense as i would have thought they would have been as exterior colour) they were done before then.
Mac, thanks for that photo, it clears some things up. I thought i hit the jackpot when perusing autolit.com website and they listed a 8x10 photo of a firedome interior, i bought it but unfortunatly they hadnt updated the inventory and it was already gone. Mac is there any chance i can get a full size copy of that ad?
Looks like my seats were recovered at some stage. I wonder if the original cloth is under the rear seat vinyl?
Heres a few more pics from the vehicle
body plate held on with screws not rivets?
the roof was definitly black
not the best photo but this is after having the vehicle steam cleaned (firewall is yellow)
section behind the grill forward of radiator
oh and just for kicks while going through my photos i remembered this. PO must have been on the smaller side! (wood blocks to raise the seat)
Thanks everyone really appreciate your time and help.

Ben,
The Firedome interior with my previous post was scanned from the large 1954 sales brochure. If you click on the picture, it will enlarge it and you can print it in a size which is larger than the one in the brochure.
It does appear from one of your pictures that there is some cloth covering on the door panels in addition to the vinyl. This cloth appears to be the same as the lighter green cloth on your seats.
Mac
Ben, firewall is yellow. That changes the color discussion. I would have to say that is more significant than the blue door jambs. You also have the yellow in front of the radiator. My 53 has black there. There must be some yellow somewhere else to be found - maybe under the door thresholds, under the seats, or in the doors. It appears someone decided to repaint the car and did not like the yellow. It could be a similar color to Randall's 53 car shown here quite often. And it looks beautiful. I do not know why the tag would have been removed - it does not make any sense. Maybe the rivets rust?
The screws for the paint/trim tag are correct.
It's supposed to be fun!

I have an origional Ross Roy Data Book for the 54
Here it what it says concerning the interior:
THe Fire Dome interior is available in two tone combinations of brown, green, and blue as well as black and gray. Colorful vinyl material is used where soiling and scuffing most often occur. It is used on the door to resist the wear around the door handle and window regulator. It is also used on the bottom of the door, on the back of the front seat and in the scuff pad just above the foot rest. The seat backs are bolster type and below the bolster the seat backs are pleated. The vinyl is also pleated. Carpeting is luxurious wool. Doors are beautifully paneled in a combination of pleated vinyl, a soft napped fabric and a seat cover material, seperated by chrome strips. The garnish mouldings match the color of the instrument panel. Kick pads are of durable easily cleaned vinyl material.
There are several nice black and white photos of the interior, both front and back.....but I dont have a sacnner.
Hope this helps
Chris
