Hi Larry, this is just a guess because your 52 would have had an automatic choke. I am thinking someone added the manual choke and drilled a hole where the choke couldn't go, maybe to close to the radio. Then drilled another hole and plugged the other one. My 52 Custom doesn't have anything between the radio and clock.
Hi Larry, I also have a 52 firedome I will check mine and get back to you. Bill
Larry I Checked my dash and no evidence of any hole in that area. Bill
Well thank stinks!
Thank you for replying..I just bought another S17 from a guy near Hartford, CT. I does not have the choke on the dash either. My car supposedly started out in Salt Lake City, maybe whomever added it then. My heat riser is stuck but I do not think it has been stuck that long..... ha ha
Hi Larry. My 53 which is very much like your 52 does not have the manual choke and does not have the plug. The plug and the choke do not have the same wood grain as the dash does. So I suspect they were added. The automatic chokes are difficult to get perfect so it may have been changed. I actually was able to get a NOS exhaust heat valve but still had to deal with a small piece of spring steel. I have many of these if anyone needs them. It is actually a rather critical piece. I would have to revisit this part of my car's renovation to have more details.
@ Paul- I would love any and all info that you are willing to share with me.
I am going to try to work out my riser issue and if you could provide info on your exhaust work, that would be great!
My new project is a one owner "52 S17 I bought that has a perfect interior and is a serious barn find. It will require lots of engine work but as I said, all tips are appreciated!
