I have not done much to the electrical system since I bought the car 2 years ago. I have some manuals but cannot find numbers for the relay and regulator..
It used to be that now and then it would not start and I wiggled the shift lever to ensure it was in neutral and it always started...well, that little trick is not working..
I want to note that the longer wire in the top middle of the relay was wound around the stud forward of it and I thought that was crazy and undid that little bit. Do you think that is the problem?
This might help you:

.................or shock you !
The voltage regulator # is 1343573.
You can make a jumper wire, to jump across the posts, on the relay, if it fails to work. The points usually are bad, due to age.

Yikes!!!! The pricing is up there!
I am going to make a jumper from the upper forward post to the middle forward post, which is how it was the last 2 years...
I cannot believe that there is no aftermarket parts (relay)?
Thanks for your time!

Mitchell Motor Parts strikes again
Before replacing the relay, make sure its not the Neutral switch. Mine has been out on my '53 since I got it and its one of those things that just kept getting put off. The switch completes a ground circuit between the relay terminal and a terminal on the voltage regulator (I forget which one and don't have any of my stuff in front of me). I've been working off an alligator clip directly between the two terminals for longer than I care to admit. Of course, you have to be sure you're in neutral or it will start in gear!
Also, I, too am missing the factory relay. Mine if from a later model Mopar and I've modified it to function as the original. Basically involves adding a terminal to the relay housing, and then insulating it from vehicle ground.
