I'm in the process of restoring my 47 Suburban and am getting close to painting it. Does anyone out there have access to the proper modern paint codes? I would prefer PPG codes. It is two tone brown and the 47-48 Sherwin Williams color chip sheet shows a Trumpet Gold with codes 416 and 940 (L) and Trinidad Brown 418 which appear to be the proper original colors but I can't be sure. Either way these codes do no good today. Any help would be much appreciated.

Tim,
It sounds as if the paint code for your Suburban is code 940. This can be verified from the car's data plate if still on the car. The colors for this code are Rhythn (Temple) Brown for the upper color and Trumpet (Emperor) Gold for the lower color. Information for these colors is shown on the color charts for the 46-48 DeSotos on the autocolorlibrary.com web site.

James,
Thanks for the blue/green paint formula. That will come in handy. I managed to get a formula for the bottom color but Auto Color Library can't come up with one for the upper dark brown color so for now I am at a dead end. I'll keep poking around.
