I just bought a 47 convertible project, that does not have an original engine or transmission so I wanted to put in a modern version with fuel injection. Any suggestions as to what might work well? Also, I am missing the wooden bow for above the rear window, anywhere I can find dimensions or buy one?
A back seat is also needed.
Thanks and Happy New Year
Rich
You can purchase any local to you 1988 to 1990 Dodge
B1500 Van. This may cost you $500. Remove the complete
Engine - Transmission and the Controlling Electric's.
************************************************
The one to look for is the version which has the O/D Button
on the left side of the dash between the Driver's Door and
the Steering.
************************************************
Take note that you now have the Alternator ( 12V ), the Starter
( 12V ), the complete A/C Unit ( 12V ) and much more.
For the Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold you will need the
Rear Dumping Design used with all the Car Division's to
clear the Steering.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Rear Axle
Stop at the local pick & Pull for the first series Dakota with
the Five Stud Rear Axle. The Ratio which matches what the
De Stoto uses is the 3.5:1 .
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Exhaust
As already said, you will need a rear dumping Manifold on the
Driver's Side.
At NAPA is the #22-599 Muffler which matchs the Exh Manifold
out-let Diameter. Any None Natl Chain ( Minus or the like )
Muffler Shop knows how this muffler is to be mounted.
Welcome to De Soto's and study "Part One".

In the last post I answered what you wanted to know.
This time it is a better idea.
Other than getting a Dodge V8 which weighs more
than or close to equal of a original Straight Six, purchase
the first series 3.9 V6 two wheel drive Dodge Dakota
with the automatic.
The Engine Weight is less; the weight it does have is
placed off the nose of the vehicle; the Power is more
than what the original De Soto Engine has and it is MoPar.
When it is time to connect the Exhaust Pipes, they are the
same size and location as the V8's.

Thanks so much for your help. My mechanic suggested I buy a dodge 1500, so I bought a 96 with a 318, auto trans w overdrive with 110000 miles. He thinks the rear axle is too long and suggesting I look into an explorer axle with disk brakes. What do you think? Also looking for lead on rear wooden convertible bow.
Thanx
Rich
Have you considered finding the stock engine and transmission for your car? If so, I'm sure you could find what you need to put it together.
Have a nice day

I like and agree with Steve's comment.
You need to look at the first series Dakota Rear
Axle before you purchase the other unit.

Thanks for all the advice.
Geoff, the email for Daryl didn't wotk. Could you please check it for me.
As far as keeping the car original, I do have a 47 Plymouth engine and transmission I am going to ha ng on to. I live at 8000 feet and would just rather have a fuel injected motor for now.
Thanks
Thanks Geoff tried that one too. Didn't work either.
Steve, do you have pictures of the rest of that car with FI?
It's supposed to be fun!
