pulled the pan, cleaned the gunk, took out the screen, etc.everything looks fine, but i still can't get the engine to turn.rear wheel up,turns the driveshaft, but clunks stopped when tried in 3rd gear.maybe the starter is stuck, engaged?seems like i'm missing something.thanks to anyone.still need oilpan gasket.
Is the engine stuck or does that turn over by hand? Often the rings will rust up and stick to the cylinder walls in a car that has been sitting a long time. Did you pull the head off yet? If there was a leaky head gasket you'll probably have some stuck pistons.

just took off the flywheel cover and was able to pry gently but firmly and turn the engine!still its pretty tight and i didn't go far.so now i probably pull the head and manifolds.problem is i haven't found gaskets for the 8 .how tough is making my own?thanks.
Try http://hagensautoparts.com/desoto/28-en ... kets/6168/ They aren't cheap but they have every thing you could need in a gasket
Thanks so much for the lead.just actually spoke to a human on the phone and ordered a complete gasket set.he made me feel great when he said my car was rare.encouragment.thanks again
Question now is how deep do I go in the dismantling?
There is most probably rust on the cylinder walls. Don't pry any more! Pull the head off and see what you have in there. Mouse nests? Coolant leaks into some cylinders? Yes, that's normal. Clean the crud out as best you can then use modern chemicals to remove as much crust as possible. Ridge ream the cylinders first. Then push all the clean pistons out first then gently persuade the sticky ones with chemicals and love. Make sure you keep track of which part goes in which hole.
How far do you go??????????????
It's up to you. Me? I'd fix what needs fixing then DRIVE!!!
Have a nice day
