Fifty years ago Tuesday next week, November 30, 1960 the last (real) DeSoto came off the assembly line in Detroit
In rememberance of that day, pehaps we can have some postings of 1961 DeSotos on the message board
Rick: In that your car was made on that date, can you post a copy of your data plate?
How about a build sheet the car is put away for the season
I have been doing a complete restoration of a '61 Desoto since early March, 2010. I am about 30 days from completing the work (after alomost 1k hrs of work). I have a nuber of photos but i don't have the knowledge/ability to get them from my computer onto this forum. I perhaps could send them to one of you folks and let you post them.
Mike
I've added your pics
I would like to know how to determine when your car was made and the history of its owners can you guide me on this
I am not sure about the actual build date of this car although I can find out. The owner was a gentleman in Jackson Ms (near where I live) named Earl Fyke Sr. He was a local businessman for many years. He was a co owner of a auto dealership called Robinson Brothers (Mr Robinson is still alive). They were an agent for several vehicle lines including Desoto, Chrysler, and Mercedes. I think the dealership closed in the early 70's. The building where it was located still exists down on Amite St in downtown Jackson. This was the last car Mr Fyke Sr owned. The car is now owned by Mr Fyke's grandson. I am restoring it for him. I hope to be about finished in about 2 weeks, after 1k hours of work. The car is real nice, in the same family since it was new.
