Hey,
I have a 1960 desoto adventurer and i need a new windshield for it, but the problem is that i don't really want to spend 400 dollars to buy a new one. So basically i would like to know if you guys know somewhere i can buy a windshield cheap in the wisconsin area.
Dominic, I am not a Supplier so I have no love for some of the prices out there; but if I found a spare windshield for my 53 for $400 I would buy it.
Sounds like you realize that the only way you can do better than around $400 is to not buy new; you'll have to do some digging in your area to find salvage yards that still have some old stuff around. A '60 Chrysler glass should interchange if it comes out of the same bodystyle.
Watch Craigslist or ebay. Swap meets like Iola can also be helpful.
If you happen to find a used glass but it's not close enough to pick up, the shipping will be costly.
Gonna be expensive either way unless you get lucky.
It's supposed to be fun!

Well one of the reasons that i am so interested in finding it cheaper is because one of my friends told me that i would find a place i can get it for 125 in the racine area with the name kgc glass. but so far i havent been able to find it.
Sounds like you need your buddy to offer up some more details. That would be quite the bargain!

A few years ago,I was looking for a windshield for my 61 Chrysler Convertible it is a little bit different than yours mine has a little bubble at the top because it is a convertible the cheapest one I found was $1,500 that's why it still needs one
I have a 1960 Fireflite that had its windshield damaged in transit when I bought it. Learn from my ignorance:
- Best price I found on a replacement windshield was $450. Before you buy, get a photograph of the windshield to verify it has the "hump" at the top of it. I discovered AFTER it was installed that the replacement was actually for a 1961 model (which the books say is a valid replacement). This is becomes more evident when you install the trim and there are gaps between the trim and the windshield.
- Take your time removing the old one. The clips that hold the trim are not being remanufactured and are as rare as hen's teeth. Do not damage or lose them!
- If at all possible, have the folks you buy your replacement from install it. I had my shipped in from out of state (broke the first time & had to ship back). It took me a LONG time to find someone to help with mine and they would not take responsibility if it cracked during the install. I got lucky in that respect. At the very minimum, make sure the installer has experience with a windshield with these kind of compund bends.
