I have a question about the rear window and its rubber 'gasket' on a 1958 Firedome 2 door hardtop, . There is a section of that rear window rubber that the outside stainless trim slips into and is not attached with clips; just the friction between the rubber and the stainless trim. I'm under the impression that section where the trim is held, without clips, is on the top of the window - is this correct? Can the rear glass of a Firedome 2 door be installed only one way? Everything I'm seeing points to both answers being 'yes'.

The problem that I've encountered, is that when my rear window was re-installed (years ago now), the gasket (which looks to fit the glass perfectly) ended up with that stainless-trim-holding 'lip' at the bottom of the window. Not sure how this happened, and cannot remember whether it was me or the glass guys who put the rubber on the glass prior to installation. The stainless trim has been off the windows for a couple of decades and, back then, I didn't take enough photos to confirm the re-installation procedure of this part. I want to check on the trim, rubber and glass' correct orientation before I get someone to come back out and remove the rear glass from my car.

If you'd asked me 2 months ago, I would have guessed the rubber could only be installed one way on the glass, and the glass only one way in the hole - now I'm having my doubts about both. Anyone have experience with either? Thanks in advance for any information any of you can give.

I think its the same as my 59 2drht. It must be upside down, because the trim does slide over the rubber lip and covers most of the rest of the rubber. The inside bottom of the rubber is different than the top part too. There is extra rubber on the bottom part that diverts moisture condensation to the outside edge of the glass.
