Got the body off the frame today. Next week we'll take the sheetmetal off to be media and sandblasted.
Next will be to get all the AC stuff mounted correctly with lined up pulleys etc. We'll disassemble the chassis at a later date when the sheetmetal is getting close to being done so that the painting of the body and the frame will be close together. Otherwise, I'll just have a finished frame sitting around in the way waiting on the bodywork to be done.

You know with spring just a few days away, you will be able to swap those Snow Tires out with regular tires. Just a thought

Yeah, but there's been too many April snow storms during my time in KS, so I think I'll hold off for just a little while longer.
Thanks too, Jim for the CD of images you sent. I enjoyed looking through them, and saw a few that had some info that replaced some photos that I had accidentally deleted.
Jim did you get new correct carpeting for your car? If so, where did you get it from?
Will likely get some more process photos up on the website to fill in the gaps from the last week or so until we got to this point.

I bought it from Auto Custom Carpets. Yes, mine does have the Gold Lamé and it looks fantastic! This pic of carpet is on the CD I sent you too. I think I paid $400 when I bought mine. But... it was about 12 years ago too when I bought mine.

8141-56 CARPET 1956 DODGE DESOTO 2 DOOR HARDTOP BENCH SEAT CARPET IN TRINADAD $574.50
That is how it is written/shows on their website. You must click on DODGE to find the DeSoto!

Thanks, Jim;
I had telephoned ACC about availability and requesting a sample, and I wondered if I ticked off the young lady that answered the phone.
I requested a carpet for a DeSoto, and she said "we don't have anything for a DeSoto". I said thank you and hung up, and she immediately called back and said "would it be a Dodge DeSoto?" I laughed (nicely, I thought) and said "that's like asking if it's a Chevy Pontiac."
I never got my sample.

I am 99% sure that they are the ONLY ones that have it. At least MINE looks very nice! I would only assume that it looks just as nice today as it did when I got mine.
I was wondering the same thing when I looked it up on the website. Why DeSoto is under Dodge. It is very possible that they just don't understand. I also noticed there is no listing for Chrysler either. I will take a picture of the END of my box and email that to you. OH... yes, I still have the box. My original carpet is rolled up in it. To tell the truth... it isn't bad looking either. Have a look at pic #087 on that disc I sent you. NO holes or worn out areas on it. Worn yes... but not horrible!

Just noticed that the Record player is mounted clear over on the right hand side to be a knee knocker for the passenger. Wonder why it was mounted there?
Here is a factory photo of a correct installation sure hope you are going to move it over?
PS: look through the windshield at what is parked in front of it.
The record player was moved over to the right side when the first aftermarket air conditioning was installed. The first unit had an underdash evaporator. We will install it in the center as it's supposed to be.

Well, our last week culminated in the removal of the body from the frame, which also means we're running out of things to "tag and bag".
We're already looking forward to having the sheetmetal back from the media blaster, and I haven't even taken it over there yet.
Several more pictures up on the web.

Hey Lee, I liked your photo, so I put it up on my project page with credit to your site. I can take it down if that isn't OK....

You are more than welcome to use it. I have two more that were taken at the same photo shoot if you are interested in them also.
Thanks, I'd love to see 'em!
