I can usually figure these things out. But this has me stumped.

My 55 Desoto came with a power antenna. I need to remove it for repair. How do I remove the chrome retainer ? I thought it unscrewed, but it's not budging. Is there a retainer inside the fender that holds it in place ?

The power antenna on the Chrysler we have in the shop has a rubber grommet above the chrome bezel. The grommet is hiding a nut above the chrome bezel.

Maybe yours is like that?

It's supposed to be fun!

So the chrome retainer does unscrew. But it took two vice grips (one on the lower mast and the other on the chrome retainer) to remove it, as the threads were rusted.

That sounds like a later (57 - ?) model.
