Hi.
I am looking for a "new" carburator for my Firedome S-16.
Anyone having a spare?
Kind regards Petter, Norway.
Petter
There was seven models ( designs ) of the Carter BBD
used for the 1953 Powered De Soto. Please add the
type of transmission that you have and other needed
information.

Petter, do you have a 911S brass tag labeled carb? If so or maybe even if not, I have some parts for the 911S. I believe it is a Carter BBD. I found one in a salvage yard and had it totally rebuilt by Daytona Parts (I would need to look up the exact name). I can give you all their info. They did a great job - probably not the least expensive. Here it is. Note the brass tag. I am glad to see you back. I hope every is well with you.
The brass tag actually does not show up in these two photos. It should be at the passenger side front corner of the carb - forward of the choke.
Hi again.
Only seven different.
The brasstag say 911 B and F 3.
And she is a fluid drive.
Hi Paul and thank you for the welcome back. Heater
is working well and more.
The old carburator is beyond help. Waterline is totally blocked
i am not able to do the right adjustment to it.
Driving season is soon over and then it`s time to try
to do some more improvement on the car.
I also have some difficults with the kickdown.
I will come back with question to the forum during the winter,
but i am not sure if i understand the "technical" language
or specific words beeing used.
If possible maybe i can ask for pictures that explain easier.?
I will try to upload some pictures of the carburator and the heater installasion.
Kind regards from Petter.
Petter, I am glad to hear you did get the heater parts all working well. The carburetor water tube could probably be unplugged. I do have many parts for the 911S ( I am not sure what the what B and F3 are. ) It will be difficult to find a "new" carb even though they may still be around. I have one that works but it has a broken part that was carefully welded but difficult to do so - I think it may leak air and or fuel. I stand by my recommendation to have it rebuilt. This is what I sent them.
Petter
If I had an email address I would be happy to send you
the original page showing the complete list of the Carter
BBD's that De Soto used with the V8 in 1953.
As a start think of ...
standard transmision,
stardard transmision with O/D,
Fluid Drive,
Fluid Torque Drive,
and any of the above you may add with Power Steering
or with A/C.

Hi Paul.
I have had the carburator rebuild, maybe i need a skilled person to adjust it properly.
Can i take your offer and buy from you a kit for the carburator.? I don`t know if the guy have
used the right parts. Two years ago i tried to do it myself with a kit bought on e-bay but
it was not all original. I will give it one more chance if it`s possible.
Rodger, i have a fluid drive with powersteering and powerbrakes.
Does this affect the type of carburator?
The powerbrake booster is also in a bad shape.(it`s buypassed)
Are there anyone who rebuild this kind of things to, or is it possible to
purchase a rebuild kit. I don`t have informasion on witch type (maybe there are seven different boosters to.

Kind regards from Petter.
Petter, I would get the carb rebuilt. I have some parts but not a rebuild kit. You probably need an accelerator pump - these go bad. Otherwise there really is not much in the carb itself to go bad. Get the float level right and make sure the needle valve is fine. The needle valve seems to be trouble free but could need cleaning.
mail@daytonaparts.com The job is not inexpensive but you can have them do what you feel is necessary. They rebuild all the switches and everything. My carb has worked well and saved a lot of time finding parts for all these different devices.
If the brake booster is disconnected from the vacuum, it should not affect the carb. I am not sure how well your brakes will work. I have manual brakes and they are fine but power assisted brakes may not be. The steering pump and reservoir should not affect the carb. The windshield wipers use vacuum so these need to be free of vacuum leaks. You do not want vacuum leaks. Good luck.
I will try to find an old Adventurers for an article on the switches and their function and adjustment. It is really not a difficult job. Some of these parts last forever.
My 9150 Imperial has the vacuum booster and it was bypassed when I first got the car. I had it repaired by a place in Calif. called Power Brake Supply. They advertise in Hemmings. At the time I think it was around $400 for the job. It sure made a difference in stopping...I had to be careful, at first, to not put myself through the windshield.
Your wipers should be electric not vacuum...heck my 39 has electric wipers.
