A friend directed me to a 1942 Black Desoto that is junked on a used car lot. The owner is asking $1500.00 for it and it is located in Upton, MA. I thought I would pass along to my fellow members in case anyone is interested in rescuing this old car. Glass seems to be intact and chrome. Body needs restoration and interior. He claims the entire car is intact and that the car was used in the movie "The Brinks Job" when it was his uncle's and was running.
Contact Ed Dinaro at: edinaro@aol.com if you want the phone number to the owner. I have pics and hope they attach properly to this post!
Ran when parked, my favorite line used with cars, too bad the movie was 1978 so 34 years of parking tends to mean there isn't much left. '42s are such neat cars with those hidden headlights.
I hope someone looks at it.
Where are the VIN numbers on a 1942 Desoto? VIN number breakdown?
Thanks,
Phil
The vehicle serial number was used as the VIN number on these cars. The serial number on a 42 DeSoto would be located on the left front door hinge pillar. The number has no meaning other than the sequence in which it was built. The range of numbers for a 42 Deluxe model was 6142001 to 6153101. The range for the 42 Custom model was 5771001 to 5783503. The numbers produced were quite low as the plant was shut down to convert to war production. Mac
If you don't find the serial no. on the driver's side, check the other side ahead of the front door.
Have a nice day
