Welcome aboard!! You have an S-10 S Deluxe made in Detroit. Please post some pictures. I'm not a '42 guy but someone here can answer all your questions.
Have a nice day
Steve
What a cool car! Congratulations on a very rare vehicle.
One of the best things about joining the club is having access to the roster, which can put you in touch with other club members that have '42s. There is only a small fraction of the total membership that participates on the forum.
It's supposed to be fun!
1949 De Soto Custom Convertible (project)
Eugene,
Whata Find! It looks like with a little tinkering and elbow grease, it could graduate to at least a 4 if not a three.
Have you had time to check out the mechanicals? Is the engine free? Did you have to evict any critters from the interior?
Please keep all of us posted as to your progress.

As you have learned, The De Soto is a "Cousin" of
the Chrysler Windsor/Royal.
Look at the site and look for photo's of the same
De Soto's that are on this De Soto Site.

The Crashier Driver's like to say they have this or
that, the De Soto Driver just nod's their head.
The Heater Parts are the same part number.

Indeed, a very rare car. Only 469 of these cars were produced!!!
Congratz on a great find!
I hope it remains a original car (Stock)
WOW! What a stunning beauty! I agree with Rick, that is a very rare and special car you have there. Clean it up and drive it. That has to be one of the best looking cars ever made.
Have a nice day

I have started working on the 42's brakes wheel cylinders all stuck. orderd all brake & seals.
recorded all dents and cracks with pictures and foot notes. I am restoring this car to as close to stock as possable. I appreciate that i am not alone in this task all of your comments are appreciated . Thank you

I always loved the look of the 3-window coupes. very sleek style and to find a 1942 version is really hard to do.I see it is still wearing 1956 Alaska plates so it has been off the road for some time. It has to have been sold in the lower 48 states and driven up because in 1956 Alaska would have been an export market and the local Desoto dealer would have been selling Desoto Diplomats. Have you considered getting a build sheet from Chrysler historical as it will tell you what dealership it was originally shipped to.
I notice that the original plastic hood ornament has been replaced by the chrome version, very common occurrence as the plastic ones are easily broken. I am pretty sure that the plastic version is being reproduced? maybe someone here can point you in that direction? Look under the chrome ornament an see if you still have the light bracket and wiring?
In all it look like a very good restoration candidate. I had two NOS hubcaps but I sold them at the convention a couple years ago. Parts are out there to be found but you have to dig!
I have parked the 42 for the winter. I am in az. for the winter and hope to find parts while i am here. Still looking for the right front fender trim.
I ran a compression test before i left Alaska and found that the valves on 4 cylinders are not closing. Any tricks to free them ? Pull manifold & valve cover ? Pull Head ?
i Put oil in cylinders & turned motor with Fresh oil & filter installed.
I recommend you pull the head and do a valve job on it. You may want drop the pan at the same time and put some new rings in it. Chances are that there are stuck rings as well as stuck valves. If you are handy, this is a DITY job. It really helps to have the car on a lift.
I have a '36 Airflow that needs this done........THIS Winter. I was going to do it last winter but was OBE.
Have a nice day
Steve
Remember valve seats are in the block I would pull the head off and keep soaking the valve stems down with penetrating oil and gently tap down the valves until they free up.grab the top valve with vise grips being very careful not touch the valve seat and turn them that will free up the valve.Worked for me.
What Rick Brinker said. The valves will EASILY comeunstuck with a bit of fiddleing around. The engine, once worked on will probably run quite well...
