I was running my 1941 DeSoto on a VCRA rally this past weekend. Car has a fluid drive transmission, completely stock drivetrain. Started to get grinding noise in 2nd gear on start off but no noise in 3rd gear. I would be the grinding noise sometimes when I went over a bump. Then it gave out altogether. Not sure if its a transmission problem or a rear end problem. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Found the problem it is the rear axle. Anybody know where I can get a rear axle gears?

Thanks
Mel Skaggs

Some possible suppliers:
Moores (605) 348-4926 South Dakota
Andy Bernbaum www.oldmoparts.com (617) 244 1118 Mass.
www.robertsmotorparts.com (800) 231 3180
Hidden Valley (520) 568 2945
Arizona parts (480) 966 6683
CTC Parts ctcautoranch.com (800) 482 6199

The part number for the differential and carrier assembly is 887633, drive gear and pinion matched set number is 664999

Let me know the specific parts you need, or if it is just the pinion gears, and I think I can give you the factory parts numbers/Bob
